標志結構為內外兩層結構，外層有“廈門理工學院“的英文加正下方的建校時間”1981”，內層利用中國特色的印章形式，突出“廈門理工“字樣，圖案圓中有方，寓意天圓地方，象征理工人的胸懷和理想。字體在古印體的基礎上，進行了修飾，標志給人以歷史感和信賴感，蘊含著一種人文底蘊。
“明理”——《宋書·良吏傳》：“精練明理，為一世所推”，即明察事理、明了道理。
“精工”——《后漢書·蔡倫》“莫不精工堅密，為后世法”，即精致工巧。
“與時偕行”——《周易》：“終日乾乾，與時偕行”。即“變通趨時”，寓有與“時”相配合而行動的積極意義。
“明理精工”強調做人做事的道德要求和行為規范；
“與時偕行”強調緊跟時代步伐、融入社會、服務社會。

“Ming Li Jing Gong Yu Shi Xie Xing”
“Ming Li”, from The Book of Song Clean Officials (by 470 A.D.), refers to the wisdom to know and to judge, what is about the mind and the heart，what are universally admired and valued.
“Jing Gong”, from The Book of the Later Han CAI Lun (by 445A.D.), refers to the most elaborate and sophisticated makings, which later professionals follow suit, what is about the hand, the promise and pursuit of professional excellence.
“Yu Shi Xie Xing”, from The Book of Changes (around 672 B.C.), means literally going with the time, or suggests keeping abreast of the times, progressive with the times to better serve the society.
